My Co-host, Tim. We wanted to take a second to explain who we are, why we're here, why we're doing this, what this whole podcast

I'm Klayton Korstjens

is about. I've been a world builder for the majority of my life. Creating new characters, creating worlds, goes all the way back till when I was in elementary school. One of my really good friends at the time, he and I created all new characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. To writing creative stories and short stories all throughout my educational years. And then I started working on a passion project of mine that has spanned a creation period of 25 + years. It's an entire world history of this place that a book series that I am working on takes place. And I have been developing this, like I said, for 25 years. It has allowed me to do as a passionate world builder, which is create gods and religions and continents, and histories, genealogies, races, languages. I also have, as a DM for D&D, I've made a number of homebrew campaign settings. The one I'm most proud of is the one that I currently am running an eight-year-long campaign in. That Tim is a player, our editor Adam's a player, my wife is a player, Adam's wife is a player in. And again, just like what I've done for Y'ya, I've been able to develop an entire pantheon of gods, religions, organizations, cults. It spans over four different continents, including one that is a personal favorite of mine, which is my piratocracy, a three-island community that's run by pirates. Think Tortuga in Pirates of the Caribbean, but on a grander scale. This podcast is about worldbuilding and the passion that myself and Tim have for creating these worlds that can be lived in, that can be escaped to, played in. That's where this all started. Was a passion that we had for making and creating new fantastical fictional worlds. I'm gonna let Tim kind of talk about his experiences.

So I'm Tim Harris. Uh, great friends with both of these two, my best friends. Um, and I definitely don't have half the experience that he has when it comes to world building and the length of time and effort he's put into a lot of stuff he's had. But I have had my own short stories I've kind of written as I've gone through this. Um, I've also wrote and published the book that you see right here, Stonewake, the Aelaryn saga. This is book one of seven that are coming through. Um, so creating worlds and putting things together has been a passion. It's one of those things that you never keep growing and adjusting to the world that you've created. Um, there's always something new to create. There's always something new to, um, learn as you're doing this, and we're still learning as we're creating. So

Why this podcast exists?

this is something that we wanted to share with you guys is not only the stuff that we've created, but the trials and errors that we've gone through and learned as we've gone through to create these worlds. Um, so we're here to share in The World Kiln Podcast the different trials and errors, the things that we found that are easier, the things that we had a hard time with, and just anything we can to help you as a viewer help create your own worlds and and keep forging ahead.

Yeah, I think a lot of our passion behind doing the podcast is, and correct me if I'm wrong, but there were a lot of things that I know now that I wish I would have known a long time ago that would have helped save me a lot of hassle, save me a lot of time and headache and heartache and frustration, and I would love to share that information and my knowledge. Not that it's perfect by any stretch of the imagination, it's just my experience. Um

Why learn from others?

but learning from other people, right? Whether it's I learned from Tim, I learned from my other best friend Adam, our editor, um learning from people who are professional publishers or authors or game designers, you know, learning and never stop learning is a big thing about world building because you can always learn more, you can always develop more, you can always be better at your craft, right? There's you never stop getting better, and if you do, you've just given up.

There's always something new to learn.

Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

Even when you think you got it all, there's still something new that you could have done better. That you're like, you know what, I thought that was great, but honestly, this would actually be better, and you keep changing and adjusting, even writing the book, it's become the first one I thought was good, but as you keep going, you keep adjusting and changing things, and you keep learning how to write better, you learn what things didn't work quite quite as well, and you keep moving forward and making it better. So, you know, even the things that you feel like you did great on or that you didn't do great on, those are just things to know to get better at, you know, to learn how to um to keep working towards making each story, whether that's in a book, whether that's in a, uh, a D&D setting, or in a movie, you know the errors or the things that didn't work out great, and you learned how to do it, you're gonna do better the next time because you've learned from your errors and your mistakes.
